Audiobook Workshop with CD Khai Dattoli!


Khai Dattoli has been a casting director and script adaptor for audiobooks for almost four years.Working primarily through Deyan Audio, the largest audiobook producer on the West Coast, she has cast books for most of the major publishing companies, including Scholastic, HarperCollins, Recorded Books, Simon and Schuster, Blackstone, and Hachette. Favorite projects she's worked on are the "SlappyWorld" series by R.L. Stine and the "Riverdale" series based on the TV show and "Archie" comic books. Recently she was featured in AudioFile magazine for her work casting the graphic novel Illegal and adapting it into an audiobook.

CLASS INSTRUCTIONS: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

1. Please email us with your sex, age, and any languages you speak, and natural accents you have before the class
 
2. Bring with you 2 pages from a fiction novel. In these two pages, there should be a male character, a female character, and a neutral 3rd person narrator. If you sound young, bring YA fiction. If you sound more mature or have accents, etc. the piece you pick should reflect that. If you are uncertain, that's fine too - just take a stab at something and Khai can guide you into the genre you would have the most success with.
 
3. Wear comfortable clothing that does NOT make noise in the booth. Audiobooks are such long recording sessions (usually 6 hours a day for a few days in a row) that readers do not project as much to save their voices, and so the mics are usually turned up to be much more sensitive than other mediums. Any rustling of clothing WILL be picked up on the mic.
