Sides Note: For this workshop, please follow our standard sides policy. Please prepare any scene that has been pre-approved (or listed on Script Clips). It must NOT run longer than three minutes. Always bring a second copy for the reader, with their lines highlighted and your name at the top.

Format Note:  Dynamic Duo. After the Q & A, 2 actors will go into the room at the same time. They will perform one at time, while the other watches the feedback and redirection. Once both actors have performed, they will leave and the next duo will come in the room.

The format for this class will be:

 

Week One - Scene Selection. Students bring a prepared scene (of their choice) to read with a reader. Scenes should be 2.5 min or less. It can be a monologue BUT would prefer it to be a scene, even if the reader has two lines. This week will give students the opportunity to have all the freedoms for a best-case-scenario first impression. They can choose the material, character type and preferred genre - they will have it ahead of time, and they can prepare as little or much as possible. This class serves as an introduction to the actor. Also, we will address strategies and pitfalls of scene selection for purposes of putting your best foot forward. 
 
**Between Week One and Week Two. Gina will assign sides and email to actors as if to set up a pre-read audition.
 
Week Two - Pre-Read Audition. Actors will present a pre-read audition of these sides. This scenario is to see where the actor's current skill set is with auditioning in a pre-read scenario - material not chosen, with only a day or two of prep. 
Notes and adjustments will be given and worked in class. Pitfalls of pre-read auditioning will be addressed and workshopped.
 
Week Three - Callback Audition. Actors will workshop the callback process. Actors will bring back pre-read material with notes as a callback. The Casting room will be kept very business, actors will exit and re-enter the room, slate and begin their scene. This is to mock the awkwardness and often sterile environment of a Callback room. We will see how the actor supports themselves in this auditioning scenario - nerves, as well as keeping material fresh, alive and interesting. We will reflect on how it goes and what is to be learned from it.
 
This format has proven to work great because there is a natural progression for actors to workshop different skills that build on one another, each able to apply to the next step, as we move from week-to-week. 
 
Actors will get to workshop Strategies of Scene Selection, Pre-Read and Callback scenarios. This ends up being a very educational environment while preserving the mock-format environment of Auditioning that is so beneficial.
 
By the end of this Intensive, actors should have a clearer idea of their overall skill set - personal strengths as well as areas they would like to grow in.
