ACE is proud to present "The Deep Dive" w/ Brian Hill!
The class will be a mix of text work and on-camera exercising over the course of three weeks. We will engage actively in a discussion about process and how (or if) change is necessary in a 21st Century media landscape.
The basis of Brian’s approach is the idea of the actor as sociologist, archaeologist, detective, profiler--mining the text for clues to draw a fully formed character. In essence, putting on the skin of another person and walking around for a while. Most importantly, though, to reconnect with the joy of the craft no matter what the audition – co-star, guest star, or for a commercial.
Week One – participants will bring in a prepared scene (not a monologue) that they know extremely well to perform in the typical way with a reader. Each scene will be examined and readjusted to illustrate the difference between the “good solid read” to the “transcendent” read. Brian will get a copy of the sides the weekend before the first session.
Week Two – application of prior week’s discussion with a short prepared scene that everyone will do. Second part of the evening will be a cold read exercise that further incorporates discoveries from class discussion.
Week Three – is all about being ready on the day. An athlete warms up and stretches in preparation for their respective sport...how are you preparing for the day? What are you doing in the moments before going into the session? Scenes will be assigned 3 or 4 days in advance and participants will be put on camera with and adjustment. Each take will be examined as a group and discussed. Class will finish up with one last cold read exercise.
